Prep 'fo lyfe

As you can probably tell by the awkward start, I'm not street. Not gangster. In fact, it probably didn't take you until this post to realise that, If it did...well bloody hell old chap!

Whilst walking through Piccadilly circus the other week, taking in all the sights of London, including its inhabitants (in the least creepy sense) my flatmate and I were talking about phases. Fashion related mainly, which in turn I suppose would mean personality and the like.

My flatmate, in her own words, described her current style as "grunge meet normal" which to those of you that haven't met her means; jeans, various scary skull tops, long necklaces and a leather jacket. However she did say that she wasn't always like this. Her current style was influenced by previous stages throughout her childhood, some example's of her phases being; chav, skater and scene.

When she listed her previous style choices I was thinking of my own, and that's where I've got stuck. I've literally had the same "taste" in clothes since as log as I can remember. I don't remember going through phases of wanting a tracksuit, nor dressing head to toe in black and insisting people call me "venom-punch". I'm starting to feel i've missed out on a right of passage, is it too late to start?

I've always liked to be slightly different. Whether it be the way I dress, the music I listen to or even the fads I never understood and consequently never followed. There are certain aspects of me that have changed, but it appears fashion isn't one of them.

I remember the first time I was called "Preppy", it was by my brother over an evening meal in which we were explaining the different social stereotypes to our parents. I remember thinking "yeah alright mate, I don't dress like the private school kids"....which I don't, I have my own style, which just falls under that category. I like to call it "Charity-shop chic"

To finish I'll let you in on a little "skill" of mine. I have the ability to wear anything, I mean ANYTHING, and make it look preppy. FACT. A recent example of this being, a nose ring.

How'dya like dem eggs?!
